DRMI Frenchtown Renaissance

The First Annual DRMI Frenchtown Renaissance 2022 held on May 14, 2022 from 12 noon to 6 pm at the Carter Howell Strong Park in the historic Frenchtown neighborhood was a huge success with over 100 participants and 40 organizations, businesses and vendors highlighting their services, food, specialties and products.  This year's event was sponsored by the Tallahassee Community Redevelopment Agency and co-Sponsored by the Walmart Tennessee Store #1408 (Platinum), Big Bend Area Health Education Center (Gold), David & Erica Liem (Gold), NAMI Tallahassee (Diamond), League of Women Voters of Tallahassee (Silver), Capital Area Healthy Start Coalition (Festival), Paula DeBoles-Johnson for County Commission District 5 (Festival), Safe Haven for Children (Festival), Strong & Jones Funeral Home, Inc. (Festival)

We are so thankful for the support of so many vendors/informational tables who wanted to be a part of the event.  We strongly believe that where there is unity, there is strength – and that strength is in helping our community to rebound by better understanding available resources.  We appreciate representation and words of encouragement from Mayor Dailey, Mayor Pro-Tem Richardson, Commissioners Williams-Cox and Dozier; Judge Jones, and candidates Ferguson, DeBoles-Johnson, and Green.  The Community Conversations: Safety & Crime Prevention Panel was amazing! The hostess with the mostest, Lanetra Bennett moderated the engaged discussion, while some of the panel took us to church with their passionate words and motivation (Assistant Sheriff Argatha Gilmore); moved us to action (Deputy Chief Holmes); brought tears to our eyes (Doris Strong); enlightened us about the realities of human trafficking (Dr. Cicely Brantley); and reminded us of the importance of taking care of the mental, emotional health and wellness of ourselves and others (Ali Korber).  And to our superstar performers, the event would not have been the same without your professionalism and extreme talent.  Star Swain, Saylor Dollar, Dr. Longineu Parsons and Musicians, Min. Dalarryo Dunklin; and the phenomenal Queen Kendra Foster.  Despite the wind that blew and the clouds that had formed making us think that we would have to shut it all down, Kendra stepped onto the stage, and behold, there was “sunshine” and the wind and clouds were completely gone.  She said – “the show must go on” and it did!
Next year, we plan to go even bigger and better, and plan to dress “Renaissance” style!

HEALTH, WEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF TALLAHASSEE NEIGHBORHOODS!

The word "renaissance" means: rebirth or renewal, and this event is designed to do just that!

The Frenchtown Renaissance is designed to ignite the mind, elevate the body and nourish the spirit by focusing on three (3) major areas to enhance the health, safety and economic stability of Frenchtown and the entire community. The purpose of the event is to empower citizens through awareness, education and experiential learning, to take action in rebounding from the pandemic and its impact, whether that is by addressing mental, emotional, environmental or physical health; learning methods for economic and financial stability; providing input on public safety; or just coming out to fellowship with neighbors and friends.  The event will highlight locally grown talent, feature Frenchtown/Southside entrepreneurs, local food vendors, gardeners/climate specialists, community agencies and employers; government officials, and musical artists at this free, family friendly event.

OPPORTUNITY TO COLLABORATE FURTHER: DRMI is a nonprofit 501c3 organization with a mission to help all people to live more enriching lives. We accomplish our mission by partnering youth with seniors to teach/learn technology through our Geeks & Gramps Program (co-sponsored by the RRF Foundation for Aging); providing anger management, substance abuse/misuse, and other human/emotional development programs behind the prison walls, court-ordered individuals and to returning citizens. We understand that as we collaborate and partner with other community organizations, we help to build capacity, which helps us all to help individuals in our communities to live more productive, fulfilled and enriched lives.
