Program overview

What participants can expect

Breaking the Chains is a six-week, trauma-informed workshop that helps participants understand how adversity, loss, safety, and emotional responses can shape behavior. The program creates a structured, supportive setting for reflection without defining people by what happened to them.

The workshop uses the S.E.L.F. framework—Safety, Emotions, Loss, and Future—introduced by trauma-informed care leader Dr. Sandra Bloom. Participants connect past experiences to present choices and identify practical steps toward emotional wellness and life beyond incarceration.
