What is it?
Control the Fire! Copyrighted 2015, is a 5-12 week group-based curriculum that incorporates a holistic approach to managing controlled and uncontrolled anger. Control the Fire! was created in 2013 by Mark & Bernice McMillan of Divine Revelations Ministries, Inc., who have over 20 years of experience in counseling, mentoring and facilitating emotional management, anger and life skills classes. The evidence-based concepts within Control the Fire! have proven effective with individuals and families, and within the adult male and female inmate populations. Feedback on needs assessments from individuals and inmates, identified that there was a greater need for an anger management class that would holistically address:
* The root causes of anger and how to overcome those feelings.
* How anger is expressed, and how to express it positively.
* Effective and sustainable anger management tools.
All versions of the Anger Management Class - Control the Fire! curriculum are:
* Developed based on direct feedback from individuals and inmates;
* Based on evidence-based programs and research from credible psychologists and multiple sources;
* 2 hours per session over five (5) to twelve (12) weeks;
* Available in non-faith based, faith-based and gender responsive (women only) versions of the curriculum.
The classes seek to identify participants' beliefs related to anger through:
* Honest and open conversations about controllable and uncontrollable anger and other emotions;
* Learning and utilizing tools to better understand personal beliefs about anger and how anger is expressed;
* Learning and utilizing practical skills to help participants to better manage anger right now!
The class structure includes time for personal reflections, group conversations, activities and an optional case study.
